Srinagar, Apr 15: PDP leader Iltija Mufti launched a scathing attack on the National Conference on Tuesday, accusing it of maintaining a tactical alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party in Jammu and Kashmir. She alleged that the NC had repeatedly traded public interests for political power and convenience.

While addressing reporters, Iltija — daughter of PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti — claimed that the National Conference lacks the moral authority to speak on public rights or autonomy. “They are driven by power and have little regard for the people of Jammu and Kashmir. Everyone is aware of the corruption that plagued the Auqaf. It was Mufti Muhammad Sayeed who brought transparency to the Wakf Board,” she said.

Commenting on the recent NC statements regarding the restoration of statehood, Iltija emphasized that the PDP’s movement goes beyond the statehood demand. “We are not just a Union Territory seeking statehood. We had our own constitution and flag. Reducing our identity and struggle to statehood alone disrespects our history,” she remarked.

She also criticized NC patron Dr. Farooq Abdullah’s recent support for the Assembly Speaker’s decision to prevent a discussion on the Wakf law, citing the matter's pendency in the Supreme Court. “They didn’t hesitate to hold rallies and make noise when Article 370 was subjudice. Now they’re using the court as an excuse to remain silent on the Wakf issue. It’s a dishonest and weak justification,” she stated.

Iltija further claimed that the NC’s selective silence on crucial issues and its strategic posturing revealed a broader political deal with the BJP. “The NC and BJP are working together behind the scenes. It’s no secret that Omar Abdullah shared camaraderie with Kiran Rijiju, who introduced the controversial Wakf Bill in Parliament,” she added, accusing NC leaders of political double standards.
