Overflowing Drain at GMC Anantnag Sparks Health Concerns Amid Unbearable Stench
A blocked drain near the OPD and Cardiology Ward at GMC Anantnag has caused an unbearable stench, severely affecting the hospital environment. Patients, attendants, and staff have raised concerns about the unhygienic conditions. The administration has contacted the R&B Department contractor to resolve the issue within a few days.
Anantnag, Apr 15: A severe hygiene issue has emerged at the Government Medical College (GMC) Anantnag as a blocked drain near the OPD Section and Cardiology Ward continues to emit a strong foul smell, creating a distressing environment for patients, attendants, and medical personnel.
The stagnation of waste has led to the accumulation of filth, making it difficult for people to even breathe comfortably within the hospital premises. Many visitors and patients have raised alarms over the unhygienic surroundings, stating that the conditions only add to the suffering of those already battling health issues.
“It’s hard to breathe in here. The smell is nauseating and the hospital environment feels more toxic than curative,” said one concerned attendant.
Medical staff, including doctors and paramedics working in the affected departments, have reportedly voiced their concerns to the hospital administration, citing that the persistent stench is negatively impacting both healthcare delivery and the work environment.
Deputy Medical Superintendent Dr. Kulbeer Singh acknowledged the ongoing issue, stating that the hospital has already reached out to the contractor from the Roads and Buildings (R&B) Department responsible for the drainage system’s construction.
“We are aware of the issue and regret the inconvenience. The contractor has been contacted, and hopefully, the drain will be repaired within a day or two,” Dr. Singh assured.
